    Who is the author?

In Bethlehem the streets were dim as shadows fell
But God lit a star and heaven smiled
And there was light around the Child
    Come let our candles shine...
    Lest men forget.

I memorized that in the sixties, but now my memory isn't as good. I wonder if there are any mistakes in the way I remember it. Does anyone know that poem and who wrote it?

Do you think it could be William Allen Knight - On the way to Bethlehem?

    Thanks for the idea.

I'm sorry, I have never heard of it before. I tried doing an online search using some of the words, but still can't find anything. One of the links, though, was to your very post on this very forum!

This very much sounds similar to William Allen Knight's prose, as olga said.
I searched the two texts below but didn't find the exact phrases. However, I thought I'd share what I found

    William Allen Knight

    On The Way To Bethlehem

    &

The Signs in the Christmas Fire

Great links, Chantelle! I'm thinking that the poem I learned wasn't that old.

"Hail him who saves you by his grace,
and crown him Lord of all."
