Yankton, SD - Native Americans followed the river’s flow to their destinations centuries ago. They named the land E-Hank-Ton-Wan, which means “people of the end village.” That is due to this was the point where riverboats on the Missouri ended their journey...

It seems SD has a city for every letter of the alphabet. What a well-rounded state you live in. With interesting history.

    Zaporizhia, Ukraine

Indeed. Which brings me to Aberdeen, SD. In it's hey day, there were four RR tracks that met here. It was dubbed the "Hub City of SD" for that reason. Also it has a small amusement park that includes some of the Wizard of Oz, as Frank Baum once lived here (had a failed store & then ran the newspaper)...

Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. There are 66.5 days annually where the temperature is over 90 degrees there.

It would be nice to live in a place that actually lives up to that meaning...

Elk Point, SD: History notes that the Lewis and Clark Expedition made camp in or near Elk Point on August 22, 1804. Elk Point was first settled in 1859 along the Military Road running from Sioux City to Fort Randall in the Dakota Frontier, making this community one of the oldest in South Dakota. Current pop: 2149.

Flin Flon, Manitoba, Canada- founded in 1927 by Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting, in order to mine the large deposits of copper and zinc there. It is still a prolific mining city with a population of 5,185.

Garden City, SD: Garden City was first settled in 1882, but it was in 1887 that Garden City was established as this was the year that the Chicago Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad came through. The town was named from the site's garden-like setting. Population: 33...

Garden-like setting- how nice it must be! And with just a cozy 33 people.

Honolulu, Hawaii- originally settled in the 11th century by Polynesian migrants. It has the Bishop Museum, the world's largest collection of Hawaiiana and Pacific culture artifacts. Men's Fitness magazine named Honolulu the fittest city in the U.S.
