Yay! You should have a lot of fun this year!
Good idea about the non-perishable items...
The holly's up, the house is all bright, The tree is ready, the candles alight; Rejoice and be glad, all children tonight.

Being in the military for so many years, I've often wondered what it would be like to celebrate Christmas by having a dinner consisting of C-Rations or MREs. Not that I intend to... lol
"Maybe Christmas," he thought, "doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas perhaps, means a little bit more!"

I had to look those up.
My mother bought pouches of military emergency food years ago, that you would activate, either with water or shaking it, I think. I don't remember them being hugely disgusting, but I know I was afraid to eat them and wasn't keen to have more than one.
Hopefully none of us will ever have to resort to any of that- especially for the holidays (but it is good to be prepared)!

Good point. When single, my Christmas dinners were somewhat simple to fix, but always welcome when I consider others throughout the world...
