I like bead garland and white lights. I don't have a tree topper. But I don't use bows except on wreaths and packages. See some ornaments:What else will you put on, beside ornaments?

Hey guys! I love small trees. Don't be afraid to put large ornaments or decorations on a small tree. You won't need many and it can be a great filler for a tree that may not be as full as you like...I have attached a copy of a small tree I set out at work...I used some of the large decorative wooden balls as ornaments. It has a rustic look to it...I like it...notice my camo Santa beside it...I hope you like it!
