I'm sure I'm not the only one who has heard certain Christmas songs one too many times already this year. What Christmas songs can you not stand to listen to again?

For me it's:
1) "The Christmas Shoes" - I know many people love this song, but it is always at the top of my "I will not listen to it" list, so please don't take offense.
2) Any Jackson 5 Christmas songs, but especially "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" - For some reason I can't stand their version of this song.

Two I never grow tired of: "White Christmas" by Bing Crosby and "Christmas Song" by Nat King Cole.

I agree with the Band Aid, the Jackson 5, John Lennon's, Elton John's, the Beach Boys and Feliz Navidid. I also don't want to hear A Wonderful Christmas Time by Paul McCartney or Ave Maria (which they seem to play a lot at weddings and funerals that I go to). I don't like Rod Stewart's voice most of the time- especially in Christmas songs. And, I don't recall what Christmas Shoes is, but I'm pretty sure I don't like it, especially if it's sad.

I do like the "originals", though. Happy childhood memories. :) I like Christmas music that's upbeat and happy. It's funny the different tastes we have.

Hey I think our tastes are pretty spot on! Lol and I do have to agree that Ave Maria is a song I dont want to hear. I didnt even know that it was supposed to be a Christmas song, the only other time I have heard it was on a videogame I play...and believe me it is the furthest thing from Christmas

Ugh! I hate Grandma got run over by a reindeer and the song where the dogs bark The 12 Days of Christmas or something like that. Oh and anything by The Jonas Brothers I can't stand them! I'm sure I have more but this is all I can think of right now.

You know its funny that you say that about the jonas brothers. I didn't even know that they were a real band. I thought they were supposed to be a little marketing gimmick (which they still probably are) because I never even hear their music. That's probably a blessing. I also don't like any of the crude profane "funny" christmas spoof songs

gummgirl
08-07-2009, 07:11 AM
Yeah, they are just some band marketed by Disney who tries to squeeze every penny out of them and all the tweens/teens think they are these Gods. I think in a few years they will fade out just like the majority of the current Disney stars.

I agree I don't like any crude humor in songs either. Well I don't like crude humor period so...

Although I love Christmas, there's a lot of the songs of the season I dislike:( Some of them are:

Little drummer boy (the only version I can stand is the Josh Groban one)
Feliz Navidad
12 days of Christmas (any version of this song makes me want to rip my ears off)
Mele Kalikimaka

There are some horrible danish ones, as well. Most noticeably "Julesang" by Gnags and "Soeren Banjomus" by Otto Brandenburg. Funnily enough, both songs are about mice at Christmas time. I hope none of you ever has to endure the horror of these two numbers;)

we have only one radio station that plays Christmas music 24/7 this time of year. They play only classic and pop Christmas songs. I'm not a big fan of those; well ok, I like a few of the old classics, I don't like the pop songs at all because to me they are not even remotely Christmassy, but that is beside the point. The point that I am trying to eventually get around to making is that this station plays the same few songs over and over and over by several different artists. I turn it on while driving, and you can be sure that anytime I turn it on, I will hear someone's rendition of "Silver Bells," "Winter Wonderland," "Do You Hear What I Hear," "The Christmas Song," "Sleigh Ride," but most of the time, it's 3 of those that's usually played. Now, I like all these songs, but I don't need to hear 2 or 3 versions of the same song in one hour. Why can't they have more variety to the classics or well known songs? There are hundreds of wonderful old songs and carols. I think it's because these are a few of the songs that the masses are familiar with. Anyway, I quickly get tired of hearing these songs because they are so overplayed.

"All I want for Christmas is you" by Mariah Carey. ARRRRGH! it sets my teeth on edge!

And there is another reason to keep your christmas music private rather than inflicting it repetitavely on shop staff and customers, I'm Visually-Impaired and rely on my hearing for early warning of dangers to myself, and so that I don't bump into others. When your aural senses get overwhelmed by piped music of any sort it makes shopping a really stressful experience. Please, christmas is a time of peace, don't spoil the atnosphere with a shrill, commercialised, festive racket.

lol, Jeremy, the radio stations have barely even begun to play Christmas music and already you are sick of these. But, I do understand why. It is because these stations play those selections and others over and over and over ad nauseum. That's why I only turn on those stations when I am driving, and then not very often. Most of the Christmas music the pop stations play is not my cup of tea, anyway, but I do still like to hear a few of the old classics once in a while. Like Bing Crosby's 'White Christmas'. I'm sort of an odd-ball because I go more for the classical stuff, like the Robert Shaw Chorale, Chanticleer, the Canadian Brass, and others. I wish there was a station that played non-stop classical Christmas music during the Christmas season. I am so thankful for pandora and accu-radio.

Jackson 5 "Santa Claus is Coming to Town"

P.S. I know I'm more than a day late and a dollar short in posting this, but I need to get my posting count up to six so that I will be allowed to post a link to my "Mystery Tune" of the week. This post makes gets me up to a grand total of three!

I really can't stand the chipmunks christmas song "Christmas Don't be Late" so annoying. and I can listen to "All I want for Christmas is my 2 front teeth" about 2 times before I can't stand to hear it anymore. :carols:

Mariah Carey is one of my least favorite singers. I hate all that fake warbling she does

Ahhhh...others who have Christmas music pet peeves. I feel like I've found a new cyber-home.

"The Christmas Shoes" is simply. horrible.
"Last Christmas" is pretty dang bad. Especially since this was recorded back when George Michael was still pretending to be straight. (Although I guess there is no mention of the gender of the other person in the song.)
"Grown Up Christmas List" gets old really fast.
I don't mind "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" all that much.
My sisters love M. Carey's version of "All I Want For Christmas Is You" so I must suffer in silence.

There are other songs that drive me nuts after I've heard them 1,000 times, but this is the same for any song, not just Christmas songs.

And I must strongly disagree with the person who dislikes the Bing Crosby/David Bowie version of "Little Drummer Boy". It's my favorite version of that song. Call me crazy.

HA...that's one I actually don't mind. Weird for me considering I really prefer classic crooners for my Christmas music.

I dislike Annie Lennox's version, it sets my teeth on edge. But not as much as the Darkness's Christmas Time (Don't let the bells end)...

They arn't Queen and never will be...

But even that isn't as toe-curlingly bad as Drivin' Home For Christmas by Chris Rea...

2) Any Jackson 5 Christmas songs, but especially "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" - For some reason I can't stand their version of this song.

i actually think the christmas shoes song is awesome..:reindeer2:
