Now that I'm older and have trouble walking, I do a lot of online shopping.

We probably do 90% of our Christmas shopping online now.

It is so easy to shop online. I sometimes miss the hustle-bustle of shopping at stores, but don't miss the long lines and crowds. The one thing I do go out to buy is gift cards, but they are easy because you can get them at grocery or drug stores. I usually buy these cards for older gift recipients - like my Mom and Mother-in-law. I give them cards for restaurants, movie theaters, coffee shops. They don't need any more "things" in their homes as they are both in their mid to late 80's. Sometimes, I will end up buying them for my daughters. I know the stores they like, but also know they like to pick-out their own things.

Well said. I'm like you - I miss shopping in stores at Christmas for the atmosphere, but I don't miss the lines! There's something about being out with the crowds, seeing the decorations, Santa Claus with lines of kids to see him, etc.

I always like to shop the sales after the holidays for a lot of the following years gifts. Saves me so much time and I don't have to fight the crowds. Online is fun too. You just have to watch out that they don't send you damaged products, which has happened to me more then once.

Like wstaple said, love the atmosphere around Christmas and that's why I shop almost all presents in stores.

I prefer to shop in stores, but I get it done early to avoid the crowds. That way I can go shopping in December to just enjoy the atmosphere.
I no longer send presents out of the country. The only people I still buy for in Canada, is an older couple and my mother. I just go on line and have a huge poinsettia, or other holiday item delivered at the beginning of December.

Jolly I agree with you. Any in-store shopping I do, I get done before Thanksgiving. Sometimes I will wait and buy stocking stuffers in-store, in December just so I can watch the crowds!

Some of both, depending on what is desired by others. If I can get it locally (or at the Mall of America), I will. There are some things that need to be ordered online, but I see some of the results in many of our old favorite stores closing down as a result of this trend.
What we don't need, especially at Christmas time, is people out of work...

I like the little "mom and pop" shops on our Main Street. Unique gifts

We have a few in downtown Sioux Falls, that I will shop at as well... :presents2:

So do I. :elf2: I can't believe how many stores have left. I've never liked shopping (I find it exhausting), so online suits me better, but the loss of so many of the stores- the major ones (Macy's) as well as the unique gift shops that I really came to appreciate, is really sad. I'm another one who likes to get shopping done early, so I don't stress, and then go out during the season to just soak everything up. Which is getting more difficult with the loss of the stores!

Yes, the walking around can be a bit tough. I usually make a day of it and stop for lunch and take in a few sights along the way as well. Sometimes just sit by a window at a cafe and watch the people passing by... :xmaseyeroll:

We go to the mall for the atmosphere and DH, DS1, DS2 shop at stores and a little bit online. I do most of my shopping online but look at return policies. That's so important because last year, a lot of the clothing that was purchased went back! This year, most of my purchases came from Amazon, ebay, with a little from Target, Barnes & Noble, Champion and gift cards from my CC rewards program.

I especially enjoy going to the local Hallmark store for ornaments and other Christmas items versus their web site. You just can't duplicate the feeling online... :santa2:

I love to shop at mom and pop shops throughout the holidays. Major retailers are done online and I don't do any crazy sales after Thanksgiving.

Downtown Sioux Falls are all outside shops, so right after the streets are decorated, I spend a day there. Shopping, relaxing and of course dining... :presents1:

Yes, I miss those things too! But I can appreciate them far more when my shopping is mostly done and I'm not stressed.

I miss the little gift shops that were packed with unique gifts- they never stay too long.

Those are nice. They even have some that are set up in the mall as well. The shopping I do online are only those things that I cannot obtain directly from a store. I love giving the local merchants my time and money instead... :santa:

Yes- I never thought we'd lose so many stores-big and little.

It is an unfortunate reality these days. Sometimes I think the world is getting a bit to convenient.

I did hit Hobby Lobby on the 26th. We have recycled our bows for so long, that they needed a break... lol

I've thought the same thing about everything being too convenient now.
I went to a few stores shortly before Christmas and pretty much all the Christmas stuff had been swept away for Valentine's Day- no good finds for me this year.

Same here. I guess I was a bit too late for the great sales... :presents1:
