View Full Version : I Was Bored With My Tree
Merry Christmas Darling

I was bored with this tree. Last year I bought this new tree and couldn't afford the kind of ornaments I really like, so I bought really cheap ones at Walmart. Now I'm getting new ornaments that I like and my daughter says that she doesn't like them. I feel really blue because I expected people to love the new look I'm trying to achieve. I want the tree to be a reflection of who I am, but I want the family to love it. :sad elf:
This was last year's tree:

I think it lacked personality.

Awww, don't let them get you down...I'm sure your tree this year will be lovely! :christmastree: I liked your tree from last year, but I see why you were unhappy; it is very basic and doesn't have a real personalized touch. Keep your head up Linda! :santa:

aww Well maybe she will like them better on the tree :)
Don't worry, I am sure it will work out

I like your tree and the colors. I like the way you draped your beaded garland, it gives it a very nice touch.
The only thing I would suggest would be more lights. Just a suggestion, please do not think I'm being critical.
But you do what you want and what you like. It is your personalize touch that makes it unique.

I love your tree MW. It is beautiful :) A tree is not judged by how many decorations it has; but by how much love a family has for it and each other during the holidays  I feel that a tree becomes a time capsule that captures Christmas memories and the joy over the years :)

I'm glad you like the beaded garland. That was the best part of the whole tree. I didn't put it on either. The daughter who doesn't like my new ornaments put it on! :santahat: Isn't that ironic?
I think your suggestion about more lights is right on, but I hate putting lights on. That's why I bought a pre-lit tree. Thanks for telling me though. Now I know that someone is listening to me and cares enough to make a suggestion.
So I have a different tree topper(a Jim Shore angel), my Jim Shore ornaments from a little tree I did last year, and some dark red ornaments. I've also ordered some ornaments. I'm planning to put floral garland on the tree instead of the beads.
My Jim Shore ornaments:

Linda, as much as you want to please your daughter just remember that it's your Christmas tree and will be up in your house all season long. If you have some new ornaments that you love and are excited to use, by all means put them up. Your daughter may like the overall product in the end anyway...Ornaments can look very different when placed on the tree. :christmastree:

Thanks...I'm hoping she'll change her mind. I may not be as good at tree decorating as she is, but I'll try. And I'm a little bit country...two of my kids don't like that. No one likes Jim Shore except me. Two of our girls collect Willow Tree.

If I could find enough of them I would do a special tree in our bedroom with lighthouse ornaments on it I love light houses. I found a 6' prelit tree at big lots for $30.00 I might pick one up before new years to do up in our bedroom next year. I really love the old artificial tree I have been using for years so I will keep using him!

There's nothing wrong with country...Especially if it reflects what you like. :christmastree: I love Jim Shore! His Disney and Halloween collections are my favorites of course ;) What lovely pics! Thanks for sharing with us. :waving:

I say it's your tree, do what you want. I said in the tinsel thread that I don't like tinsel on my tree, but I like it on other people's. It all depends on the look you are going for. You said you're a little bit country, so I'm guessing your whole house is decorated country. If that is the case, your new tree should fit in perfectly.
Hi, this is Lisa. Have you thought of a theme for your tree? For example, if you like angels or santas, work on finding all kinds of ornaments with that theme. It really made my tree the envy of many. I would find several ornaments that were similar and different from the theme and I had a cute angel themed tree. If I can find it, I'll find you the website of some ornaments. I am not allowed to post a site on the first post, so I'll have to find it and write back.

My main theme is Jim Shore/Heartwood Creek. I think I now have all the ornaments I need. I mail ordered some that should arrive fairly soon. One of our daughters has a nice snowman tree.

Don't worry about others opinions on your tree- as long as you love it that is all that matters. If your kids are younger you might want to consider getting them a small tree for their room that they can decorate how ever they wish. My parents did this for us and we absolutely loved it!!!

My oldest grandchild is sixteen.
I guess I was worried. I just want everyone to enjoy the tree when they come over to exchange gifts. I hope they like it enough when it's done even if it is Jim Shore. I'm the kind of person who wants everyone to have a good time. I want everything to be perfect....silly me. At my age, you'd think I'd have more sense than that! Maybe you guys are helping me get my head on straight. :dizzy:

I agree. I like to look at other people's trees when I go viset, but I'm not going to their house to see the tree, I'm going to see them (and hopefully load up on great food:))
From what I know of you Marshmallow World, you sound EXACTLY like the kind of person I would like to spend Christmas with! We would probably spend the day talking about ornaments.

Thanks...my mood changes from year to year. I loaned the beads to our youngest for Christmas 2008 and I don't remember getting them back. Christmas 2008 I did this:

Thank you! But I'm not so sure that I have a flair like my daughter does; I just have occasional bouts of inspiration. These are some of the ornaments on the 2008 tree:

Different! :) I see what you mean about these ornaments having more character and being more you. (You must have one heck of a storage area, for your changing moods! ;)) I'm glad you got to do it the way you envisioned it. Did your family eventually come around to liking the new look?

My thirteen-year-old granddaughter liked the flower garland a lot. No one else said anything.
As for the storage area....I think I need someone from HGTV to make me get rid of stuff. But everytime I do get rid of stuff, my youngest daughter tells me I got rid of the wrong stuff! :santahat:

I went bonkers when I found those! I bought nine of them in three different styles. :gelf:
And the little red signs have different greetings on them.

This year is the first year I'm going to have a train going around the middle of my Christmas tree. I just hope my 5 year old will leave it alone.

A different ornament theme could be landmarks, like the Eiffel Tower, the Kremlin, etc. http://kriskringleforsingles.blogspot.com/2009/07/christmas-in-july-european-landmark.html
