I have yet to put up my tree and such. I live in a building, so decorating the outside is not possible. But I can do the windows and the inside. Just need some time to get the decorations up - Maybe this weekend.

Nice photos Thomas. :waving: Do you call it your "Christmas Disney display" because the majority of the characters are from Disney, ie: Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pooh? Just asking as a big Disney fan. ;)

Thank you so much! It's a 7-1/2' slim artificial tree. But you'll notice that unlike most slim trees, it still has a nice flare at the bottom. Our youngest adult daughter says she's going to buy one just like it this year.

Hello everyone :santahat:
I am so happy that I was able to find this website. My wife and I love the Christmas season and it always so much fun to get our place ready every year.We usually have a Halloween party around Oct 31st and once it is over we take everything down and get ready for Christmas. I spend over 100 hours prepping Christmas trees, decorations, and food every year. I love having parties during the Christmas season and helping the less fortunate and older people out that I know.

On November 1st we will be starting on the Christmas decorating. My wife and I put up 6 decorated theme trees. We do not switch anything on until December 1st. I close the front curtains on November 1st and my neighbours start saying to each other "that idiot must be starting on his Christmas decorations :) We have already visited some stores here in Toronto that have started to sell Christmas decorations. We are both finding that we are having problems trying to focus on the Halloween party that we are having in 2 weeks.

Hi Leahrosa :waving: My wife and I are a little crazy with the Christmas decorating. I have been blessed with alot of energy which comes in handy at Christmas. I do all the cooking at home and I have started a tradition of cooking a full Christmas meal ( Ham turkey, stuffing, etc ) on the last Saturday of November for a friend that lost his mother on Christmas eve. His father has health issues as well. I give my friend a meal to take home to his father and leftovers to keep him going for the week.

That sounds really nice Leahrosa and is what Christmas is all about :)

We also like to have several of the seniors that live near us over as they enjoy all the decorations. I also have a cople that drive from 200 miles away every year to see our trees. They will sit for several hours and have a smile from ear to ear as they look at one of our trees in particular that is crystal and clear twingle light themed. For that very reason I always try my best to make that tree as magical as possible.

While some people might find it to be a little too much, if I can, for a moment make people look at that tree and get a warm a fuzzy feeling then it is worth all the time and effort :)

Thank you for all you kind words everyone :) I know that I said in an earlier post that I will not start decorating until Nov 1st. The Halloween party was great and the morning after my wife and I started to take down the Halloween decorations in our condo. We finished ahead of schedule so I dragged out all of 20 Rubbermaid bins of decorations and started setting up the crystal tree.

Progress report:

I am sorry for such a long post but I know there are other extreme decorators out there that would like to know the details. For everyone else.. Yes I know I am nuts :jumping:

After 7 hours of work the tree has been put together, the stand has been reinforced and checked. I spent hours going through all 3000 mini lights and replaced 24 dead bulbs. I have been able to set up 1200 lights. The next step will be to set up an additional 800 lights that weaved in and out of the branches starting from about 12inches into the tree and then out to each tip. These light sets will support about 30 ornamotors. I will have to make sure that ornamotors are secured and spaced throughout the tree. The final step will be to wire the outer branches with 1000 random twinkling lights. I will also have to try and hide the wires under the branches with twisty ties.

I wire the tree 3 separate ways so that I can change the look of the tree from twinkle only to
core to tips with ornamotors etc.

If I can get some quality time in the next few days and keep focused, I should be ready to start decorating by some point this coming weekend. :christmastree:

I promise lots of detailed pictures :)

Tree update #2

I spent the last 7 hours on the lights and I am happy to report that I am finished. I also anchored the tree from the ceiling ( using 40pound fish test line) and gave it a stress test by giving it a good shake. There are so many ornaments that will be placed on this tree so I do not want it to come crashing down. I finished installing all the ornamotors and fastening them to the branches.

http://www.mikestruys.com/images/Mike/IMG_1656.JPG

I will start decorating in the morning and should be done by Sunday. The reason that it will take so long as that here are over 1300 items and ornaments that go on this tree. Once the decorating is done I will put artifical snow on it that will give the tree a glittering effect that goes well with the twinkle lights. I then have to put the star on the top and find the
skirt.

Once the tree is finished it will sit dark until the last week of November. I should be ready to work on the purple tree by next week. I also have to help my wife with her 3 trees and have 2 other of my own to do. I have all sorts of other displays to do in the condo and then I have to get both of my balconys ready by my Christmas party on Dec 5th

I will probably drop 10 pounds from running around :)

I will have lots of pictures of the decorating that will start in the morning along with some of the new ornaments that I have found on my 2008 trek across Ontario.

It may be your internet options. Depending on your internet, you will have settings or tools or something that will give you internet options. Click on the tabs until you see, Trusted Sites, click on it and then on the button. Add this site to the list. See if that helps. That is the only thing I know, lol. There are firewall issues too, but, I dont' know about that.

Hopefully you get your issues sorted out TXSNOWGIRL :)

Unfortunately I do not have much to report today. I had a busy day work wise. Actually I got about 200 ornaments up. I spent a good chunk of the day sorting through bins of decorations. I also have been under the weather so I was not as productive as I would have liked and there are so many decorations to put on this tree. I was getting a headache just looking at the piles of ornaments :sad elf:

Hopefully I will be feeling better tomorrow.

Edit Sorry I meant to say Sean :) Sean did you get your problem fixed...

The tree looks a little ragged in the picture above but I am in the process of adjusting the branches.

I am about a quarter of the way through. I have unwrapped the rest of the ornaments and layed them out. As you can see I have a lot of work to do

http://www.mikestruys.com/images/Mike/IMG_1666.JPG

http://www.mikestruys.com/images/Mike/IMG_1667.JPG

What makes it even more difficult is as you put more ornaments it takes you a longer
amount of time to find a branch on the tree. It could take 45 seconds to 2 minutes per
ornament.

I put ornaments inside the tree towards to center to give the tree a 3d effect:
(yes I am nuts)

Wow I forgot how much I loved these pics until I check them out to load them here to share with you all! As you can see, I collect the precious moments christmas ornaments- I have about 30 of them.

I hope you all enjoy!

Every year I make sure I take a picture of the dogs and their reaction to the tree being dragged into the house- This year our beagle was just a puppy and he wasn't too sure about it!

Those pictures are neat. Do you have a macro lens?

I agree about putting ornaments inside the tree, I do that also because I have lights inside and the lights make everything sparkle when I place ornaments in front of them. Oh how I love the sparkle.

Many years ago my husband's company had their Christmas Party at this Inn and in the lobby was a crystal tree, it was absolutely beautiful and yet I could not resist positioning a few ornaments that were not placed to receive the sparkle from the lights. (I normally don't do things like this but it had to be done, LOL)
The tree was breathtaking.

Thank you everyone for all your nice comments :) The total decorating time from start to finish was 38 hours. I will take some better pictures of it in the coming weeks. I have closed my blinds so no one outside can see it. The purple tree should take about half the time to set up. I am going to start on it today or tomorrow. It should be complete by the weekend. My wife has a pair of trees that she is working on. I will post pictures from them later on today.

Hello from Christmas central :dizzy:

Sorry for not posting any new pictures. My wife has almost finished 2 of her trees and there are bins of Christmas decorations everything. The place is a mess. I had some delays with the purple tree. I have found that there are a lot of blown bulbs so I am having to do some additional work.

I will get some pictures up when I get home from work as well as some more pictures of the crystal tree.

That hallway has really poor light MW so colours really get distorted.

OMC 1 of the 2 last trees is a slim tall black tree with clear lights and red ornaments. It is what I like to call an experimental tree as I am unsure about the theme and I purchased the tree in 2007.

The final tree that I put up is a Hallmark Star Wars themed tree. I will then work on the table displays and other misc decorations. I still have the get the 2 balconys set up.

I have only been plugging in the trees while I was decorating them and to take pictures of them. We usually do not have anyone visit our place for all of November while I get all the decorations up. Thanksgiving is celebrated in October here in Canada which is why I did not have to wait to start decorating. I think that I will start to plug the lights in on Nov 30th. I am about 2 weeks ahead of last year so I should have everything wrapped up soon.

We start our Christmas entertaining the week of December 1st. It is hard to resist the temptation to start to plug everything in but the energy bill will skyrocket :dizzy:

Marshmallow World, I Love your Christmas Shelves!

Silent Night, the picture of your tree from 2006, with all the presents and lights is (and this may be redundant) SO CHRISTMASSY to me :) I LOVE IT

Crazymike, All of your trees are so wonderful! I love how detailed the Crystal Tree is and how it gets more and more beautiful the closer you get to it! I love that you're showing us your step-by-step (and wow, there sure are alot of steps, and TREES!)

Growing up We always had a fake tree, so in 2005, when I finally got my Very Own Apartment, I went to chop down my own Christmas Tree:

http://chantellejoy.brianblades.com/photos/albums/xmastrees/mytree_andme.jpg

(The snow was so perfect, and I had some of my best Christmas Memories that day!)

This is how I decorated it:

http://chantellejoy.brianblades.com/photos/albums/xmastrees/tree_lightson.jpg

http://chantellejoy.brianblades.com/photos/albums/xmastrees/tree_closeup.jpg

I was really happy with it, considering I was on a very limited budget, but decorated it the way I wanted to.

By 2006 My friends and family started to catch on that I might be a bit CRAZY about Christmas!! :dizzy: And they got me Chrismas-Themed Gifts For Christmas.. including a fantastic Christmas Train that I used in my 2007 Decorations:

That red tree is so unstable MW. I have to find a better way of making the stand sturdier.

They came with them Donna. I have a few more deer that I have to get set up. They did not come with a wreath so I am trying to come up with one for them.

Speaking of deer I saw this beautiful silver/peuter deer on the weekend at a store where I live and I am debating on buying him but I think that my wife might kill me. He was very expensive and I do not know where I would put him but I have never seen a deer quite that nice. I do not know what I am going to do...

Donna-50
11-18-2008, 11:52 AM
See if the deer goes on sale. That's what I try to do. I saw a deer in Home Goods the other day that I wanted but it was large and don't know if I want to store it so I didn't get it. BTW, where do you store all your Christmas stuff?

Crazymike1965
11-18-2008, 12:06 PM
The problem is that there were 3 on Nov 8th and now there is only 1 left. The store marks everything down by 50% on Boxing day but I live in an area where there are lots of wealthy folks so I think that he will get snapped up soon.

I have a storage room in my condo where I store by Christmas decorations and trees. I just have enough room to fit everything. The problem is that every year the decorations continue to grow but the room does not :)

Our 7-1/2 foot tree comes in three sections. The top section isn't loose but it sways easily at the top and that bugs me.

I just love deep red colors. I used to have a red velvet sofa. I miss it. Velvet is such a nice fabric and my living room looked awesome at Christmas even if I didn't have much furniture. I also love the glittery ornaments on your tree. I was enamored by your crystal tree; then I saw the red one and thought, "Wow! That glitter looks awesome with red."

My wallet is a little sore after the purchase but I could not resist

I'm glad you were able to snatch him up Mike...Very nice addition! :gelf:

Is he metal or ceramic?

I also do most of the cooking so my wife goes to bed on Christmas Eve while I stay up all night cooking

Actually Lynne we will be moving into a house in 2010 maybe even a larger house if we are willing to handle a longer drive to work. The smaller house does have high ceilings so .... :singing: :dizzy:

Linda he is metal. I am working on a display for him. I put him on top of a cabinet with a glass beaded garland and a multi coloured LED light.

:pThanks Donna and Theedwin :)

I do not have the tree Donna but there are lots of presents under the tree and the angle of the picture which is giving the illusion that the tree is elevated. Theedwin that tree is so heavy. I have 2 sets of guy wires on the ceiling and a heavy duty stand to support all the weight. I give it a good stress test before I set it up. I messed up the guy wires and put them on too early so the top of the tree is bent. I am scared to try and fix it at this stage as I do not want to break any ornaments. I wish that I can take a half decent picture of the tree. It is so bright that the pictures get under or over exposed. My wife is going try take some more pictures of it and the other 6 trees on the weekend.I will be powering everything up starting tonight. That means my wife will have to go next door to use the hair dryer :p

I imagine that your light bill will go up during the holidays. Mine does a little with my one tree and indoor lights. but so beautiful to look at. I envy you getting to view all six trees and on a dily basis. I love my little tree(6ft). I find it is cute and more about me then hubby. OMC I am looking forward to all of the pictures that will now start to get posted here since Thanksgiving and Black Friday are over and it is now officially the Christmas season.

I think that I am the only crazy Canadian here so the seaon started for us on Nov 1st :dizzy:

Well my wife and I opened all the curtains for the first time last night so there goes the electricity bill :santahat: My wife and I have our first holiday party next weekend and I am still decorating and tweaking the trees. This is a very dangerous time for me as a lot of the stores here in Canada have started to mark down their Christmas merchandise and when a crazy person like me is roaming around the stores today it could make for an expensive day plus a good beating from my wife

She is the voice of reason and also yanks me back to the ground especially at this time of the year.

For the last 4 years now on the second Saturday in December I have been making a full Christmas dinner for a friend who lost his mother on Christmas day. Turkey, Ham from scratch, stuffing, potatoes, etc. I usually give him all the leftovers to take home to his father. I then repeat the whole Christmas dinner process with some changes to the menu for my wife and sister on Christmas Eve.

I am sorry for going on. I am just excited about Christmas :tree: If I have kids in a few years I am more than certainly drive them bonkers :dizzy:

I will post some more pictures later on :)

Happy decorating day everyone :christmastree:

Don't be sorry for going on! I'm getting a chuckle out of this. My mother has always gotten very excited about Christmas and I take after her. But I'm not too crazy about cooking.

Tonight I gave my daughter some Christmas cards that had red snow boots on them. She admired them the day I bought them. She asked me why I was giving them to her; I told her it's because I always buy way too many boxes of Christmas cards. And that's the truth! I just get carried away. :o

*The village belonged to my great-grandmother and was given to me after she passed away in 2002. Quite a few of my Christmas decorations were her's and I have my grandmother to thank for that. When she and her sisters were going through their mother's things, Mama made sure to get as many Christmas decorations for me as she could because of how much I love Christmas. Our son's Christmas animals/decorations and a little Christmas tree I'm going to plant in our front yard:

Our tree; we're still letting the branches fall out before we decorate it later this week:

This is the "kid's tree" and has all of our son's ornaments on it, as well as ornaments DW and I made when we were children and other kid-friendly ornaments:

This gazeebo is in front of town hall in downtown Matthews, my hometown:

I proposed to my wife in this gazeebo on Christmas Day night back in 2004. Complete surprise...I told her I wanted to show her the Christmas lights around the little shops in downtown Matthews (we were still living in Wilmington and hadn't moved up here yet):

Which is why my mother-in-law gave us this gazeebo for Christmas one year:

Well, I had to go back and look at your stocking. LOL. I was so busy looking at your fireplace that I didn't see it the first time! The gazebo is cool.

:gelf: Your elf on the fresh cut tree reminds me of my loneliest Christmas. I was single and my two roommates went home for Christmas. But one of them had spent her last dime on a tree. We had no decorations except a can of snow and some dried red flowers so I bought a package of those elves for the tree. I should have kept the elves, but I got rid of them a year later. I think they're in a landfill somewhere. How did I know that they'd become famous?

Who gets your fourth stocking?

I think his fourth stocking is for their dog! I thought he said somewhere on the board that his dog gets a stocking each year.

Actually the elf is Dale, our Elf on the Shelf (http://www.theelfontheshelf.com). He and his storybook were given to our son as a gift this year and he was literally hanging out in the tree the day I took the photo. :gelf: He "moves" each night to a new location to watch over our son so he can report to Santa all that he sees. We were reading the story to Robert the other night and when you get to the end it has a place for you to fill in your elf's name. We asked Robert what he wanted to name him and he uttered something that sounded like Dale. When we read the book again and asked him who the elf was he continued to say the same word sounding like Dale, so that's his name. :santahat:

The 4th socking is for my sister-in-law...She's been living with us for a few months now while she goes to culinary school here in Charlotte. But you're partially right Bobbi. our dogs do get a stocking, however, their's already comes packaged with bones shaped like Christmas treats. :santa:

My first post here, and what better way to introduce yourself on a christmas forum than to post a pic of the tree:) So here's my last year's.

P. S. Marshmallow world, I love your last year's tree, looks really nice and traditional with all those colors. Some folks don't like a lot of colors on the tree, but I'm (obviously) not one of them:santahat:

P. P. S. Chantellejoy, love your '05 tree - that's what great trees are for me, with all their flaws and imperfections of nature's gifts. It's charming!
