Hello everyone,

I really wonder when is the best time to start all shopping? I guess sooner rather then later but one is so busy. When do you all start?

Do you mean food or presents? I started present shopping months ago. I'll probably do the Christmas food shop about a week before Christmas :)

If you want to find unique gifts then the sooner the better. Something that is truly unique is not mass produced. Maybe they are produced 200 - 300 at a time so they run out and it takes a while to restock them. This is especially true with online shopping. Also because online orders are shipped there is always the chance of breakage so you should leave yourself time for a replacement to arrive.

Of course if you are giving the most uncreative gift ever - a gift card - you can wait until the night before.

Happy shopping.

Hi,

Yeah, you are right it is time to get going with shopping. Don't you find it harder the closer it get to Christmas? It seems like people leave it to the end and in a crazy rush goes shopping. What about on-line? Do you buy stuff there?

I'm not a big fan of malls so I buy as much online as I can. I think that it is easier and you can find things faster. I've never had a problem so I'll keep doing it.

Buy throughout the year so there's no mad rush. If you see something for someone, buy it if it's at a good price.

Sales are also good for Christmas shopping

I just heard on a news radio station - not 30 seconds ago that:
-one third of all Christmas gifts will be purchased on-line this year.

(Also heard that a load of fresh-cut Christmas trees was spotted heading down the highway this morning!!!)

Hello,

I don't usually buy much on-line, but the other day I found this most charming children's book for Christmas on Amazon.com
It is called The Animals Christmas Star by an author called Carita Sundin.
The reason I went and bought it for my 6 year old is because my friend had it and I really thought it was lovely. Had a kind of old-fashion feel to it and it is about the connection between a little girl and animals. It is diffrent and very pure.
Anyway, sometimes one can find nice stuff on-line.

I have to say that I am probably the exception as I HATE (hate hate hate) online shopping. I don't trust it (you hear about security concerns popping up all the time), I worry about it arriving on time, that they are sending me the right thing.. too many possibilties.

I like going to the store, looking at the displays and people, taking what I want in my hand and buying it then and there.

Oh, and to the topic.. my shopping starts the day after Thanksgiving lol.

I just kind of shop whenever I find the deals. I start my lookout in early November. I agree that gifts online can be much cheaper.

The best time to start saving would be the beginning of the new year. The best time to shop for christmas would be on black friday, day after thanksgiving when a lot of products are sold at half price!

despite always seeming to leave my shopping till the last minute i have been much better prepared this year, went to Best Buy this weekend and got 25% off all beauty products so used that to get my family presents sorted. Would suggest starting this week if ordering online or if your shoppin on the hight street then i would say anytime upto 23rd depending how brave you are!

Hope this helps

I am mostly a flyer shopper. So weekly I am looking for deals. I started my shopping around the end of November and I am almost done now. I found good deals too which was nice. I find the longer you wait the more stressful it gets, the malls being more busy. I did all my shopping 2 hours before the stores closed so it seemed much better for me, less people and I got a chance to browse more.

I think it's always good to start Christmas shopping when you find a nice bargain. No hassle. :) and make sure the person does not see the presents loool

It’s the season which makes us to busy and also we have our work to do as well. But there are many sites by using them you can order your gift and gift for your family as well. You can even do some shopping on the Christmas day by taking your family to a picnic as well.

I'll probably start the process again somewhere around mid-summer as I start to get ideas from my wife and the boys.

I am currently working on a needlepoint project for my mother-in-law for Christmas 2012. It's a rather large project so it will take a while. Will do one for my Mom too - probably in the late summer/autumn

This year, if I keep my job with all that crisis, I intend to be more organised with my gifts and that means that I will do a lot of my shopping from Internet, as, some things I want, I can not find them in my country... :)

The best time of year to start Christmas shopping is anytime you see something that would be a good gift for someone so that would be between Dec. 26th through the following Dec. 24th. I feel comfortable buying a Christmas gift for myself starting about this time of year, i.e., if I see something I want and don’t need, I buy it and put it under my name on my Christmas gift budget.

I started about a week ago! Bought my grand-niece a very cute little backpack. She's not yet 3 and I think she'll love it. It's a pink poodle with a zippered pocket and back straps - just her size!

You can never tell when to shop. I am shopping for presents since September. It's because it is hard to find a gift worth giving.

I started in June. We have 4 kids to buy for plus others. If I don't start early, I'll never get it done. Also it helps on the finances that way!

As soon as you can..

For me,the shopping is all part of the Christmas build up, it adds an air of excitement rushing around town with the decorations up etc with others doing likewise, i wouldn't like to miss out on that. Therefore i usually start doing my shopping October onwards and usually complete by December 20th...

Food shopping usually complete by about the 23RD.

It is definitely easier to shop early. Watch for sales and buy then. So much easier on the pocketbook! And if you don't have to shop in Dec. , you have more time to enjoy decorating, baking and partying! I will usually save buying stocking stuffers for Dec. just to get a small taste of the Christmas rush!
