You know, those little Christmas trains that go under the tree. I got myself one and reassemble it up every year. It was pretty cheap, though - would like to get a bigger and better one, but it's a nice decoration. :snowman:

I wish I could find my photos of Xmas last year.. I got a Christmas Train as a gift a few years ago and it always ALWAYS put it around the bottom of the tree.

I LOVE IT! :D

I want one! It will have to be something for when the children are older, though as it wouldn't stay under the tree for very long with my little'uns running around - I just know that they would grabbing it every time my back is turned and trying to push it around the house :santahat:

I used to have a couple of very inexpensive ones. I used one with my Christmas village and one around the tree - but no more. Some years my husband would set up his old train sets in the basement.

Papa Christmas- Just curious, do you work for the railroad or are trains just a hobby? My husband works for the railroad in Ft. Worth.

I have a village and a complete train. I will eventually incorporate it into my display, but with the boys being little, I just don't want anything wrecked.

I have always wanted to have an old fashioned tree with a train set, Victorian doll and a rocking horse set up in front of it. Unfortunatly I live in a high rise and don't have the space. I would love to live in an old house and decorate it all up for Halloween and Christmas.

Hi everyone! :santa1:

I just found this forum and was so glad to see it. I’ve had large Christmas Train displays for many years, but nobody to really to talk about it with. I’m just now starting to set up my display for 2011. I’m starting a little early this year because I started making some major changes last January, but I had to put it up for a while for other things. I had promised to work on it this past summer outside on my back patio, but I just got too busy with my other hobbies.

I started bringing stuff in yesterday and was just overwhelmed by how much work I have to do and I’ve been kicking myself in the butt for tearing apart last years layout which was all done and just needed to be assembled.

I guess being a newbie, I can't post photo yet, but will post many photos because it’s easier to describe stuff with a photo

I have a train that goes around the Christmas tree, on the floor. Cats like to knock it over :elf2:

My family has had trains under their trees for as long as I can remember.

My Grandfather and my dad had a 4íx8í Lionel set that ran through a tunnel behind the tree. Now I have one. Mine has evolved over the years from a porcelain train to a battery operated one and then to an electric one now.

This year Iíll have three trains running, although 2 was enough. I had a brief moment at the height of the Christmas season last year. :elf1:

Our problem is that Santa piles the presents under the tree. I don't see how that would work with a train. That's why I'm hoping to include my train once the boys are grown and out of the house.

That was also our problem when the kids were small, so we raised it up a little so we could still get the tree on top and put the presents around the raised section. it took up a little more room, but when the kids were real little the presents did not come out until Christmas eve anyway so it was only for one morning.

Four years ago we had out grandson with us. He could only craw at the time, but he got into everything, so I had to build a Plexiglas wall around it to keep him out of the houses,

I’m not sure if I can put a YouTube link to our 2007 Christmas video seeing as I’m a newbie, but here goes a try. In this video you can see my child proofing.

OK I guess I can’t oh well

We used to have a train set when I was little -- it was real old but the trains were in great shape. I remember everything being real HEAVY (!!) the trains, the rails, the control box. The trains would go fast around the tracks with the engine even making white puffs of smoke out of the top -- the oil that we'd lube and prime the tracks and wheels had this unique smell which will always remind me of Christmas.

We had an Engine, a couple coal and wood cars, a caboose. Then a "Snow Plow" Train with a thing on the font that spun real fast, another Armored train car (probably WW2 vintage) which had cannons poking from its windows -- man they were fun.

The Trains fell to disrepair after a couple years and then we stopped using them... maybe I'll by a set this year for me and my son to play with.

Jeez, what a good Christmas memory this thread sparked up -- thanks to the poster!

OMG Sleeper. I am in LOVE with this set up...and I thought I had a large village. It pales in comparison! My husband has an old train set that he used to set up when we had more space. Miss it!

My wife collects porcelain houses and every year they are coming out with nicer ones. We always pick up a couple of new ones each year and I have to make more room for them if we canít part with an old one.

Last year I had a weak moment and bought a third train that was on clearance for a price I just could not pass up. So the last few days Iíve been completely changing everything around and have added 12Ē to the front and side. It has taken a large chunk out of our living room, but we are fortunate enough to have a large TV room where we have moved things for now.

My wife and I have always gone all out on decorating the house, including filling the front yard with fun things for the kids, but my body canít do all the things I used to do like climbing up in the trees to sting a large Santa with Sleigh and reindeer across our driveway overhead. So now Iím focusing on the Christmas tree display.

I wasnít going to do much this year, because my wife was struggling with cancer and I just didnít have it in me to do any more. Sheís had some major surgery and it looks like we may have beaten it for now. Now she wants a big Christmas tree display with trains and Iím going to do my best to build it for her.

I want a train, I want a train, I want a train......maybe if I say it enough I'll get one. Two of my favorite childhood Christmas memories are sock monkey garlands and a train set up to go around under the tree. We had 2 over the years, a Lionel and an N-scale. They were presents to my brothers and they took them when the grew up and left home. I never got a train - I got dolls - would have like to get a train set.
