Chocolate Crackles

1 (1 lb. 2 1/2 oz.) pkg. devils food cake mix
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 tbsp. water
1/2 c. shortening
Confectioners sugar

Combine ingredients and mix with spoon.

Shape into balls the size of walnuts. Roll in confectioners sugar.

Place on greased sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.

Makes 48 cookies.

This brings back such precious memories! I bought the cookbook when I was a young wife and mother.

Note: Be more generous with the powdered sugar than I was that time.

I just want to give everybody a heads up. The contents in cake mix boxes is shrinking by three ounces. The Betty Crocker mixes have already shrunk. Stock up on the other brands before they shrink too. Using the new size with the old recipies will screw up a lot of peoples baking. I would hate for anybody's holiday recipes to not turn out.:sad elf:
