As a visually-impaired child in the 1970s I remember the new plastic smell of toys on christmas morning, it never seemed to last beyond that day. No doubt by now most of those plastics have been condemned as a health hazard but I loved that smell...

...and I loved the smell of the freshly baked Christmas kourabiedes and melomakarona. Traditional Christmas pastries. And the smell of cinnamon...always a favorite. :rudolph:

Pine trees and cinnamon. The smell of mulled wine, or glögg as we call it here in Denmark, also really puts me in the Christmas mood.

as a kid growing up in the 70's my grandma's house on my father's side always smelled of smoke because so many smoked back then. Couldn't smell the Christmas tree :elf2:. Grandparents on my mother's side didn't smoke, nobody did so the fireplace smell is what i remember most, that great warm fire place

Weird as it sounds, but PAINT. My dad made it a point to paint our house in a new color every Christmas time.

They just opened a Bath & Bodyworks at the mall right by my house, and they have a wide array of WONDERFUL 'Holiday' scented Candles (http://www.bathandbodyworks.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=4488664&cp=2484529).

My favorites are the Snow Apple Mint (http://www.bathandbodyworks.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4393253) and Fresh Balsam (http://www.bathandbodyworks.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3638853) - they're both so strongly connected to Christmas!!! :)

Also (and I can't believe no one has mentioned this yet!) the smell of a Turkey roasting in the oven!

The smell of the cookies I bake, the day I start decorate home for Christmas...

When 1st day is over and have almost finish with living room, I go to the kitchen and
start baking my fav chocolate chip cookies (http://www.allthingschristmas.com/forum/album.php?albumid=55&pictureid=286). Late in the night, I put them in Christmas jars...

Honestly, that smell takes me back to my childhood... :smitten:

As weird as this sounds, but the smell of brimstone carried in the cold crisp air reminds me of the holidays. As a kid growing up in New York, I would go to lots with my parents to buy a Christmas tree. And every lot would have a barrel with a fire for warmth and that aroma always stuck with me. :tree1:

Most of us are probably unfamiliar with those cookies, so here's a link to recipes and photos:

we have artificial trees but I buy pine scented thingys and hide them on the tree. Love pine scent for the season

Greetings !

I agree with Elf Erv - love pine scent, but we have an artificial tree as well. I love walking through the Garden Center of Home Depot at Christmas, just to feel the needles and smell the pine. Refreshing!

The Pine scent reminds me of something I read years ago. I read that if you boil up some Christmasy spices like ginger and cinnamon it will make your house smell like you've been doing Christmas baking. I've never tried it myself.

And what about the smell of Christmas boxes inside, when you get them down for start decorating..
Maybe, not a great smell, but, I do not know, there is just something happenning when opening the boxes every November..
A smell, that I can not explain..

I know just what you're saying, olga!

We don't have a natural tree at my place for Xmas, but I do love the smell, so every year I get one of those pine-scented candles that always does the trick. We sometimes hang a natural wreath inside, too, which always smells so great. :smitten:

A bit of a weird one, coming from a vegetarian, but my Christmas smell would have to be TURKEY. I'll always remember the smell of it roasting in the mornings when we'd come downstairs to open our stockings. Even now, as I've been a vegetarian for 10 years, the smell still makes me feel Christmasey inside!
