Good afternoon everyone! Only about 5 months left til Christmas :elf1:
I have been getting so excited recently with all the 'Christmas in July' movies on TV. This year I have decided to do stockings for my family. Stockings have always been a pretty big deal in my family. This year, instead of getting a bunch of larger gifts for my siblings, I will make the stockings :) I will also make one for my mom, dad, and boyfriend in addition to other gifts.
In our stockings each Christmas, we always get a new toothbrush, lots of candy, small gifts that we asked for, hats, gloves, socks, underwear, flashlight.. stuff like that.
This year I for my 2 younger sisters (19 and 16), I will be putting in addition to the above, makeup, nailpolish, their favorite candy and snacks, hair stuff, comfy socks, razors, candles, gift cards (maybe $5 or $10 each) to Dunkin Donuts, McDonalds, or other places they like to go.
For my 20 year old brother I will include our traditional stuff, beef jerky, slim jims, some tools, $5 or $10 gift cards, stuff for his truck, razors.
I will probably think of more in the next few months.
What do you usually put in your christmas stockings?
Does your family have a certain stocking tradition?
Please feel free to share!:presents2:

Katie,
It sounds like your stockings are a lot like mine...I usually get toothpaste, new toothbrush, Reese's trees, gift cards, etc. I like stockings...I have used them as "gift wrap" in that instead of wrapping several small gifts, I would wrap them simply and put them, with some extra small goodies in a stocking. Stockings make great decorations and you can put them just about anywhere! :home:

My husband and I have always done stockings for each other! We still do stockings for our kids who are 25 and 16. My Mom did a stocking for me until I was well into my 30's.
Always simple stuff: shaving creme, razors, lip balm, lotion, hair accessories, bobby pins, pens, markers, nail polish, emory boards, candy, deodorant, etc!

I like everything that you mention. So far I always put candy. Maybe I'll add something more this year! :elf3:

I'm always given some stationary, fruit and a packet of cigarettes! The last one a little unconventional I know.
I think small and fun things are best for stockings - always starts the day off on the right note (apart from the cigarettes maybe).

We fill stockings to spilling over and hang them on the bedpost for early christmas risers to open up when they awaken...

I always do a stocking for my Mom and Fiance.
Last year I filled my Mom's stocking with Makeup, Scratch Tickets, Soaps from The Body Shop, her Favorite Candy, a Christmas Movie, $10 Gift Cards and her Favorite Perfume.
I filled my Fiance's stocking with a Tim Horton's Gift Card, Scratch Tickets, Candy, DVDs, CDs and Miniature bottles of Liquor from the Liquor Store.
The last stocking my Mom did for me was themed. I love Marilyn Monroe so she filled an entire sticking with nothing but Marilyn Monroe items, I loved it!

For me Stockings have all the normal stuff like you guys mentioned minus the Candy -- we aren't really candy eaters. Normally the stocking will be chock full of little things and then one "Big" little gift, Perfume or Cologne, Jewelry or a Watch .. something small enough to fit in a stocking.

Yes - my husband does that also with the stocking. Little things then one big little thing!

My wife fills my stocking with beef jerky--different flavors and brands. I love that. When I was a kid, my dad would give me gift certificates (we didn't have gift cards back then!) to Burger King or McDonald's and a "movie pass" which was good for one ticket, soda and popcorn. I loved it because I enjoyed going to the movies alone when I was a kid to see movies that my friends and family weren't interested in.
We try not to give our son too much candy, so we load his stockings with small toys (one year we packed about a dozen Beanie Babies) and some of his favorite candy like Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Hershey mini bars).

Growing up my mother would always put things like watches or jewelry in the stockings. I do the same for my children. I try to get the stocking gifts fun but inexpensive.

Our stocking stuffers are always cheap stuff. Wife and I usually load up on stuff from the travel size aisle in Target. Stuff like powder, wipes, little toothpastes, chap stick, etc... For the boys, it's small toys from the "cheap" aisle at places like Walgreen's. Occasionally, an expensive gift will find it's way in, but it's not the norm.

Used to work at a Walgreen's :rudolph: And I was in charge of the tree decorating every Christmas for the four years I worked there. Gosh, that was so long ago.:dizzy:

The one by my house doesn't display any trees. You just have to look at the boxes.

Maybe that's their policy everywhere now. I worked there in 1992 thru 1995. We'd decorate two or three and sell them as they where on Christmas Eve. That was a funny sight to see people carry them as they were to their pick-ups. Talk about last minute decorating :elf1:

The only things I can think of that haven't been mentioned yet are magazines, little horoscope books and naturally a candy cane. I've also been known to put in some handkerchiefs or funny boxer shorts.

The Walgreens stores near us are always loaded with inventory! They don't set up the large trees here either as there wouldn't be room for them!

Tallest tree we ever decorated was 3ft. Never taller than that.:christmastree:

Oh 0- so they were small trees. I don't think they have even the small ones though!

That was like 15 years ago, I don't remember the store I worked at carrying really tall trees. But it was a relatively small store. I feel depressed when I think how many years have passed since then. I had fun there and I was a looooot younger. Time flies.

Stocking stuffers always end up being little "necessity" items in our house.

My mom always used to put the traditional "rare fruit" in our stockings like oranges and walnuts. I never really got why until when I was older. Now that we're older, my sisters and I usually get an ornament, some hair supplies like clips and ties, and a dvd.

One year I did stockings for all of my friends rather than buying "big" gifts, filled with random little things we all liked or needed; coloring books, crayons, school supplies, favorite candies, nail polish, hair accessories. We did them pretty much the same at home. Always the fist thing we opened, and my mom filled it with necessities and special treats; we always, ALWAYS got a ton of candy, mostly Reese's cups, always a Lifesaver book. Sample/trial sizes of a bunch of different smelling soaps, lotions, perfumes, new pencils and pens for school, a deck of cards. One year, she put a few necklaces in mine. Always made one up for the dog, as well - Santa loves the pets, too ;) Now its almost all candy, with a few random chapsticks or what have you thrown in for good measure.
Trying to get together some ideas for my fiance's stocking this year, but not sure what all to include. So many ideas...

We always got the normal stuff in our stockings (socks, underwear, crayons, magazines, candy) but my parents would always put one big gift in the bottom of the stocking that was small enough to fit.For example, we always opened stockings last (weird i know) but when i was about 15 I got my first ipod in the bottom of my stocking. I thought I wasn't getting one until the very bottom of my stocking. That was always a fun part of unloading the stocking. My brother would get something like a video game in the bottom of his. :presents3:
