Hey guys! I know on several of the posts, we talk about some of our favorite Christmas decorations and pass out suggestions and ideas, but I was just wondering if there were any Christmas decorations that when you see them you roll your eyes or even cringe???:elf2:

I don't know that this is a decoration but I personally HATE those upside down Christmas trees that you can get some places !!!!

I agree with you -- I don't "get" those, either...and I don't want to offend anyone, because I know this is a fairly common decoration approach, but I can't stand to see red Christmas bows tied on to chairs or other furniture for just the heck of it...tying a bow to something doesn't necessarily make it festive... :santa:!

Chavvy pink or funereal black christmas trees, those bundles of twigs that they expect you to pay £20 for, as well as giant inflatable snowmen and santas.

Why?

Whoever invented those giant inflatables is a rich person, because you see them everywhere! I just love to see one looking like the leaning tower about to hit the ground when the wind picks up!

Also, Christmas colors are no longer just red, green, silver and gold...there are bright pink, blues, greens, grays and blacks...I must admit I do like some the bright greens, but for the most part, I keep to more traditional colors...to each his own...:rudolph:

Hi, I absolutely detest up-side-down Christmas trees. I know I sound harsh but pleeeease whose idea was that? As far as I'm concerned they show lack of respect for Christmas. :christmastree::christmastree::christmastree:

Thanks for the wonderful thread HollyJolly!! :santa:
Well, we all know Christmas decoration in stores always begins first days of December and every mall and department store across the planet hires a Santa or two for the season..

I say Baaahhh!!! Humbug! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34w8xqFz3eU) to all those stores who hire Santas who who do not seem to enjoy spending time with Children, making them and their parents feel uncomfortable..

SATA STOP HERE signs also get me annoyed, as if Christmas is some kind of cargo cult! What sort of materialist messages are children being indoctrinated with these days?

We have an Australian based website selling local Gourmet Food and Wine Gifts fro Christmas.
You would be surprised how many people actually WANT Tacky and Cheap gifts added to their hampers. (http://www.huntervalleyhampers.com.au/)

But, yes, my most favorite worst Christmas Gift Thingy is those little santa and themed heads, the size of a dime, that get stuck in my kids throat...

HollyJolly

Every Christmas they always put out these prepackaged gift sets - whether it be cheap candles, lotions, candy, etc. I hate those! People will bring them to a gift exchange or give them as a last minute gift...I totally believe it is the thought that counts, but in situations like that...you know there was no thought put in it in the first place!

Besides the up-side-down trees that I've already mentioned that I don't like, I don't care for pink trees either. Or other color besides the Christmassy ones. For me trees should be shades of green or white (for snow).:christmastree::tree1:

The only thing that makes me go "bah humbug" is the ornaments that have nothing to do with Christmas. I know some people love them, but a tree filled with Disney movie characters and Gone With the Wind ornaments just seem to be too commercial and against the season to me.

I can't stand the upside down trees and the non-Christmas decorations too.

I have to admit though that in my downstairs powder room I usually have a small pink feather tree and a pink rose wreath and a few other pink decorations, but in my defence the bathroom in painted choclate brown, and the light pink looks lovely. Plus my main tree is classic and traditional.

I agree with the upside down tree. I also semi agree with the non themed decorations. If it were up to me, everything would be Christmas themed but my grand mother and now mother, have always gotten ornaments for my and my brother for Christmas relating to something we were involved in that year. Last year I started working for the Disney company and so I got a Disney decoration.

I personally don't like LED lights. I know that they're energy saving, but I have a huge issue with the shade of blue in the multi-colored lights -- it looks really dark. With the white, I think it looks like a baby blue and it's one thing to be on a reindeer in the yard, but when I see an entire tree covered in it - or a house - it looks like TRON. I've recently discovered the "warm white" LED and I like that better. It's still a little yellowish, but I think it looks more like clear mini lights than the "cool white" TRON kind.

I also don't like themed trees in blue/purple or pink...anything in non-XMAS colors (unless it's a department store or like Victoria's Secret where they want the tree to match the store). I don't want to offend anyone, but I just think -- if they don't mass-produce Halloween decorations into baby blue and hot pink pumpkins and witches, why change Christmas colors to it? I feel the same way in regards to upside-down trees. Target is huge on using lime green -- sometimes it works but when it's lime green, candy apple red and prints of triangles with a star on them...I feel like they're trying to change the whole look from festive Christmas into the Jetsons Christmas lol.

Once again, not trying to offend because some of the things I see do look nice even if I don't prefer them. I'm just throwing my two cents in. I also probably wouldn't feel that strongly if I didn't see MORE of the modernized/rainbow decorations than I do of the "classic/vintage" decorations.

I'd also love more of a variety of outdoor decorations than LOWE'S trying to ambush me with air blow ups.

If I'm honest, I absolutely can not stand BLUE lights. I know many people love them but I just can't stand them. They do make me cringe! The village I grew up in had the bright idea that all the shops and businesses could do festive decorations together - they put blue bulbs and blue icicles outside each and every local shop and business! They now do it every year. It looks so cheap and tacky! I hate the blue glow that that village has at Christmas time now and every time we go over there to visit my mum, I have to roll my eyes! I'm glad I moved away because every year it made me a little mad when they put them up!

LittleMissChristmas
10-12-2011, 05:05 AM
I know what you mean by towns/villages trying to be festive and ending in disaster. In my town they put "bells" up but they look more like big blotches of tacky red and yellow. Half of them are burnt out and yet they still continue to put them up for the last 15 years. It wouldn't hurt them financially to just put up something new this year --- something that's holiday related and actually has working lights!

The next town over in both directions do it better...makes our town look tacky.

I like that there are blue lights for people who celebrate Hanukkah and want to to add lights to their house, but I know what you mean about the glow.

I use some blue lights (mixed with white) on my window awnings. I believe they give a good impression of ice/snow. I am also growing my outdoor display more and more every year. This year, I am putting it to music and there will be some blinky-flashy going on...sorry ornamentmaven. One thing I am not using, and I really don't like are inflatables. I love plastic blowmold figures because they remind me of the 50's & 6o's. However, inflatables are a bit tacky in my opinion. Blowmolds may be tacky too, but they instill a sense of nostalgia for me.

Love came down at Christmas,
Love all lovely, love divine;
Love was born at Christmas,
Star and angels gave the sign.
