Anytime before the 6th , They say its bad luck to take them down after the 6th . don't believe in that rubbish anyway. They will come down on the 2nd in my room (time to get the room in shape and new years clean), rest of the house will be around the 6th.

Well everything came down today; as much as I love Christmas and had a wonderful holiday season this year I was ready for it come down.

It was all up over 5 weeks this year. Time to look forward to Valentine's Day/St Pats Day and Easter. Spring and summer can get here now!

Next thing you know, it will be time to decorate again for Christmas!

Took down general decorations yesterday (1st). Took down village and some of the outside decorations today (2nd). Tomorrow the tree comes down along with the rest of the outside. I usually do it in 2 days, but I'm also busy planning my youngest daughter's Sweet 16 Party! So alittle behind schedule this year!

I haven't seen it like this in months. I wait until February for the Valentines decorations!

I know Blue! 2009 was A TERRIBLE YEAR! All my hopes were for a great turnaround in 2010! Well the year started out with my daughter's boyfriend totaling his car on January 2nd and my other daughter totaling her car on 1/7! The drain field for our septic system appears to have a problem and the drain field for the washer appears to be frozen and caused a flood in the laundry room! On the bright side - no one was hurt in the car accidents and there is no permenant damage in the house!

It could be worse. A good friend's next door neighbor had a fire at her house yesterday. Amazingly, it was the same day the owner was scheduled for a cesarian section!

On the bright side = no damage to my friend's closely situated house and her daughter feels like a hero for seeing the fire and calling 911!

I'm still hoping for a great 2010! Forever optimistic!

Blue07

ornamentmaven, gosh that is really a long string of bad luck! I'm glad to hear that everyone's fine and there is no permanent damage. It was the same for me ... the only "one" sustaining real damage was my poor car. It's really old and I've been planning to change it but I'm feeling a very strong attachment to it!

Looking at the brighter side of things, I think that perhaps it's god's way of waking us up and telling us to be more alert! It's really easy to sink into complacency when things run smoothly. Also a reminder to count our blessings ... you and I might have had a bad start to the year but nothing compared to the Haitians. My heart really goes out to the poor children there :sad elf:

I usually leave my tree up until around mid-January. It's just too pretty to take down any sooner. That, and I'm a procrastinator.
There were some folks on my street who didn't take their tree down until March this year. I could see it in their bay window up until St. Patty's Day! That's a bit overkill, even for me.

It's a family tradition that it is bad luck to have the decorations still up by up by January the 7th, I don't know if this based on a more widely held superstition.

So it's up on December the 15th (my birthday) and down on January the 6th.

We usually take most of the Christmas decorations down around New Year's when we have a holiday...it is always soooo depressing for me! The house looks so empty and bare. I have a lot of snowmen decorations (I love snowmen), that I leave up usually at least through January, since they are winter and not just Christmas, but when I take those down, I know it is really over...:crying:
