Marshmallow World,

It was like that, 60% off at JoAnn's, but by the time I got enough, it still came to a substantial amount. I'm trying to remember, but I think I paid $6.00 or $7.00 for each strand. I was a little nervous about using a floral garland as I hadn't seen it done before. But I think it looks okay. The flowers are pretty with the lights from the tree shining through them.

I LOVE your tree, Mike! On Sunday we drove to our church that's in a town about thirty miles away. We drove through the country and all the trees were coated with ice and the sun made them all look silver. It took my breath away and made me think of your tree.

I wanted to see our oldest daughter's tree so we drove out there yesterday. She had taken it down. She does that every year! And I don't get to see it because I'm too busy before Christmas. :( What happened to leaving the trees up till New Year's Day?

thank you, OMC! And MW, I know what you mean. My best friend gets tired of her Christmas tree and decorations and starts taking it all down on Christmas evening after dinner and by the next day, it's all gone and put away. I figure, it took me weeks to get it all done (yes, I procrastinate but it's still a lot of work) so I will leave it up until at least Jan 1st or 2nd. Who knows? Maybe I will leave it up this year until February, lol I never did put up my village this year. well, have a blessed and peaceful New Year everyone!

Question, when are you supposed to put up your outside Christmas lights? We live in Canada so we don't want to wait until it's too cold, but this year my neighbour looked at me kind of funny when we put them up.

gummgirl
08-07-2009, 07:02 AM
You can put them out anytime you want! No I'm serious I see people who keep their lights up all year! But most people put them out in November possibly the week before Thanksgiving, or the week of Thanksgiving or the first week in December. At least that's what I've noticed around here. Put them up when you feel like it, who cares what your neighbors think (unless you are close with them, then maybe I should have kept my mouth shut!)

I put ours up anytime after Hallowe'en. I try to hold out for a fairly "warm" day, since it takes me so long. It's not good when I wait until after Thanksgiving, because it never fails to be freezing with a wicked wind chill. I just want to have them up and be able to light them on December 1st.

Thank you Mistletoe and gummgirl! My problem is I DO care too much about what people think. Last year we put them up right after the U.S. Thanksgiving and my neighbour commented. They're not mean, they joke about it but I know what they're thinking. Since it's my Husband who puts them up, I have a much better chance of them actually getting up as long as it's not too cold. So.... I will have him put them up anytime after the second week in November. That's it, and I'm sticking too it!
Thanks :)

I'm surprised they gave you a hard time after Thanksgiving. Did you light them right away? A lot of people here have their trees up the day after Thanksgiving and there's at least one house that has their lights lit on Thanksgiving Day. A bit too early for me, but I know it's because they just can't wait. :santa-smiley: Since you don't celebrate our Thanksgiving, does your country's "official" Christmas season start Dec 1st?

Actually, I don't think we have an actual date. I know some houses around here put them up right after Halloween. I think I'll tell my Husband to put them up but not to light them until Dec.1.:yahoo:

I find it strange too that comments were made after Thanksgiving. Because sometimes people go to look at Christmas lights around that time.

We always begin decorating the day after Thanksgiving...There's nothing like coming home after a busy morning of shopping and getting out the Christmas decorations! :christmastree: We usually start indoors first, but our outside decorations are up by December 1 and I start lighting them that day. No need to wait! There's only 24 days until Christmas! :santahat:

True. One year I didn't get the outside lights up until a week or two into December. They were hardly up at all before it was time to take them down. Not worth the effort. Now I make sure that they're ready on time. :santa-smiley:

well lets say roughly 900 on the tree, but going to invest in some tiny LED ones

you can get strings of 780 i think. So we want four for the tree.

also have the four garlands on the ceiling with 400 lights on,but the more the merrier:christmastree:

On my tree, I usually have 600 lights and I use 800 more, on places like the photo I attach.

What about some snow on the tree?
Do you have any wooden ornaments? They would look really nice..

You can also put something on the top of the tree.

What do you say?

There is not that much in the tree except white lights ,long branch like things that are

glittery, some glittery leaf things. The white string stuff was a big long garland of twiggy

white flock type thing but it can apart so we used separately...and last but not least

loads of shiny glass, has to be glass else it doesn't give the same twinkle....:santa-smiley:

Looks like a nice tree.

As far as what color to use what I do is usually I have one of all different color ornaments and things that I have collected over the years and my other tree I use whatever color that is in that room at the time.

Both of mine now have white lights and do wish that I had go one with muli-colored lights. Next tree I buy will hopefully be one that isn't prelit as they are very heavy because of all the metal.

Hello everyone, I hope that you are all doing well. Christmas decorations are starting to appear up here in Toronto so Jeannette and I have started our Christmas trek. This year thing s will be a little different as we bought a house which we will be moving into in 2010. We have started to do some packing so this year the crystal tree will be the only tree being set up. There is no room for the others because of the boxes. I will start to get it set up right after Halloween as Thanksgiving in Canada is on October 12th. I will then keep it unplugged until December 1st.

The new house has a raised ceiling in the livingroom so you know what that means :dizzy:

I will report back on what I buy in the coming weeks :tree:

Regards,

Mike

Tinkerbell a 12' crystal tree will be very danting tree to set up as my current tree takes me 50 plus hours to complete. A 12' would probably take me 60 plus hours and at least another 1000 lights plus more ornamotors and ornaments. My wife already has eyes on turning the old tree into a green themed tree which will replace her current 6 foot tree that she is using.

Well I think it will look grand when you finish it....:elf3:

Our tree has new LED lights this year 6x573 lights so should be bright....!!:christmastree:

Cant wait to start mine now..:elf1:

That sounds really interesting Tinkerbell :) clusterlights !!! I have not seen lights that small here in Canada that come in packages that large. That woudl certainly make my light wiring alot easier than the 15 plus hours that I currently spend every year with my 3500mini lights. They are such a pain to set up and I individually check every bulb as about 30 or so burn out every year.

They are very economical to run as well, very little power at all. Thats why we chose
them. They are a tad expensive but hay who cares its christmas...:elf1:
We have seen ones of 720 lights they sell for about £80 a set....:elf2:

Tinkerbell I need to see if I can find them in North America. My wife ( born and raised in London) has a power invertor so I would also be able to order them from the UK and I found a place that ships internationally. Very interesting :)

I am glad that you like them ladies :)

They should be in the tree with the other 1000 plus decorations sometime next week if I make it to next week. Work has been been so busy that I have been getting called at all hours. I will need every ounce of energy, imagination, and insanity to finish that crazy tree lol. It will be fun :)

I have the vision of how id like the white tree to look..But I think it will take me a few years to acheive the look...All the oranaments I like are mega money like the little mini cupcakes ..And this year the closest I found in pink garland is more of a hot pink so I have to get that to work...But hey its kinda fun searching for the stuff all year long and last Dec 26th I found really cute stuff like mini milkshakes that will be new to use this year...I cant wait to get going :) sooo excited !!

Hi Shellyann; welcome! I joined a short time ago and am kinda new too, and love it here! We have alot in common...I'm originally from NY and also have 2 little grandsons (which sent my Christmas obsession into overdrive). Your decorations sound really nice! Have you checked ebay for the tinsel garland? Sometimes you find really unusual stuff there.

That sounds really nice! I'm sure they love it.

I look at the holidays very different now...I'm even crazier than I was to begin with. The outside of our house is completely lit; we have a huge tree that we hang lit balls from in all colors, and our trees in the front and back yard are wrapped in white lights. (I'm dreading the electric bill...) I've spent the last two months purchasing toys and ornaments for their tree this year. I keep thinking what's going to happen my kids ever have a girl. :o

Pink tinsel garlands and vintage items are in high demand these days; if I come across some I'll post a link.
